Project Manager Resume Example

Also called Program Manager, Project Lead, PMP.

Every project manager says they deliver on time and on budget. The resumes that stand out give the size of what was delivered, the conditions it was delivered in, and what happened when something went wrong.

What this example does well

  • Each project is given a budget, a size and a result against the plan.
  • The rescue story shows how she handles trouble, which is what interviewers will ask about anyway.
  • The PMP appears in the headline, where recruiters filtering for it will see it.

How do you write a summary for a project manager resume?

Two to four lines at the top that say what you do, for how long, and what you are best at. Here is one for each stage of a career.

  • Entry level

Project coordinator ready for a first project manager role. For two years kept schedules, budgets and meeting notes for five concurrent office fit-out projects worth $3 million in total. Earned the CAPM certificate in 2026 and comfortable with Smartsheet and Microsoft Project.

  • Experienced

Project manager with five years of experience delivering operations and IT projects of up to $3 million. Plans, tracks and reports clearly, manages vendors and keeps teams moving when priorities change.

  • Senior

Program manager with fifteen years of experience leading portfolios of up to $60 million. Built a project management office from scratch, trained 30 project managers and introduced reporting that the executive team uses to decide what to fund.

What are good bullet points for a project manager resume?

Each starts with a verb and says what was done. Change the details and numbers to your own; a number you cannot explain in an interview is worse than none.

  1. Delivered a $2.5 million system rollout across nine offices on time and 4% under budget.

  2. Built project plans, schedules and budgets with the team and kept them current every week.

  3. Ran weekly status meetings and sent a one-page report that executives actually read.

  4. Identified risks early and agreed on owners and fallback plans for each.

  5. Managed contracts and performance for six vendors.

  6. Recovered a delayed project by cutting scope with the sponsor's agreement and re-planning the rest.

  7. Coordinated a team of 15 from engineering, finance, legal and operations.

  8. Handled change requests through a simple approval process, protecting the deadline.

  9. Led lessons-learned reviews and turned them into a checklist for future projects.

  10. Managed up to eight projects at once without missing a milestone.

Which skills should a project manager put on a resume?

Pick the ones the job posting asks for and that you can back up with an example from your work.

Hard skills

  • Project planning and scheduling
  • Budgeting and cost control
  • Risk and issue management
  • Scope and change control
  • Vendor and contract management
  • Agile, Scrum and waterfall methods
  • Project tools (Microsoft Project, Jira, Smartsheet, Asana)
  • Status reporting

Soft skills

  • Leadership without authority
  • Clear communication
  • Negotiation
  • Calm under pressure
  • Decisiveness

Licenses and certifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)
  • PRINCE2 Foundation or Practitioner
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM)

Which keywords belong on a project manager resume?

The words recruiters and applicant tracking systems search for.

  • budget
  • risk
  • vendors
  • schedule
  • stakeholder
  • delivered
  • plants
  • projects
  • status report

Use the ones that are true for you, written the way the posting writes them, and put each where it shows something you did. A list of keywords with nothing behind it helps nobody. To keep them readable by software, choose an ATS-friendly template, and read how applicant tracking systems read a resume.

How do you quantify project management experience?

Give three numbers for your biggest projects: the budget, the team size and the result against the plan. "$12 million, 22 people, within 2% of budget" lets a reader compare you with other candidates in seconds.

Add the conditions that made it hard: several sites, several time zones, a fixed regulatory deadline, a shutdown window. The same result is more impressive under pressure.

Should a project manager list methods like Agile and PRINCE2?

Yes, briefly, because postings filter on them. Put them in your skills and certifications, and mention the method inside a bullet only when it mattered to the result.

Avoid long explanations of process. The reader knows what a stand-up is; they want to know what you delivered.

What do employers look for in a business resume?

  • Give the scale of what you handled: budget, team size, number of sites, how many executives you supported.
  • Write about outcomes other people felt. A project delivered three weeks early or a process that went from five days to one is easy to picture.
  • Name the software you use every day. Many postings for these roles filter on it.

Questions about a project manager resume

Is the PMP required?

Not always, but it is often listed as preferred and can decide close cases. If you are studying for it, say so with your exam month.

How do I show project management experience without the title?

Describe projects you ran in other jobs: what, how big, with whom and the result. Many project managers started as coordinators, engineers or analysts.

How many projects should I list?

Two or three strong ones per job. If you ran many small ones, group them in one bullet with a total.

How long should a project manager resume be?

One page for up to about ten years, two pages beyond that.

Start from the example, swap in your own jobs and numbers, and switch to any template without retyping a word.
