How do you write a summary for a manager resume?

Two to four lines at the top that say what you do, for how long, and what you are best at. Here is one for each stage of a career.

  • Entry level

Team lead ready for a first management role. For two years led a shift of eight customer service agents, covering schedules, coaching and escalations, and my team had the highest satisfaction score in the center for three quarters in a row.

  • Experienced

Manager with six years of experience leading teams of 10 to 25. Sets goals, coaches people, manages budgets and improves processes, with a record of better results and lower turnover.

  • Senior

Senior manager with fifteen years of experience leading multi-site teams of up to 200. Owns budgets of $20 million, has led two reorganizations and developed a bench of managers who now run their own departments.

What are good bullet points for a manager resume?

Each starts with a verb and says what was done. Change the details and numbers to your own; a number you cannot explain in an interview is worse than none.

  1. Led a team of 25, setting goals and reviewing progress every week.

  2. Improved team productivity by 18% while keeping quality scores steady.

  3. Reduced staff turnover from 40% to 22% through coaching and clearer career paths.

  4. Hired 30 people and built a structured interview process.

  5. Managed a department budget of $3 million and delivered it on plan.

  6. Held regular one-on-ones and yearly development plans for every team member.

  7. Handled performance problems fairly and promptly, with documentation.

  8. Led the team through a system change with no drop in service levels.

  9. Reported results to senior leaders and proposed fixes for anything off track.

  10. Promoted six people into senior and lead roles.

  • Coaching
  • Decision making

Which keywords belong on a manager resume?

The words recruiters and applicant tracking systems search for.

  • team
  • satisfaction
  • turnover
  • budget
  • promoted
  • one-on-ones
  • training
  • volume
  • lead

Use the ones that are true for you, written the way the posting writes them, and put each where it shows something you did. A list of keywords with nothing behind it helps nobody. To keep them readable by software, choose an ATS-friendly template, and read how applicant tracking systems read a resume.

How do you write a manager resume that shows results?

Pair each responsibility with an outcome. Leading 60 people is scope; raising their satisfaction score while volume doubled is a result. Your resume needs both, and most need more of the second.

Include what happened to your people: promotions, lower turnover, a better engagement score. Leaders hiring a manager want someone who grows others.

What if your title does not say manager?

Describe the leadership you did under whatever title you had: the number of people, what you were responsible for and the results. A team lead who ran schedules, coaching and hiring has management experience.

Do not change your job title to one you did not hold. Put the real title, then let the bullets show the scope.

What do employers look for in a business resume?

  • Give the scale of what you handled: budget, team size, number of sites, how many executives you supported.
  • Write about outcomes other people felt. A project delivered three weeks early or a process that went from five days to one is easy to picture.
  • Name the software you use every day. Many postings for these roles filter on it.

Questions about a manager resume

How long should a manager resume be?

One page for new managers, two for experienced ones.

Should I include my management style?

Not as a statement. Show it through results, and save the description for the interview.

Are management certificates worth listing?

They help a little, especially for moving into management. Results always count for more.

How far back should I go?

About ten to fifteen years, with early roles shortened.
