Product Manager Resume Example

Also called PM, Product Owner, Technical Product Manager.

Product managers are hired for judgment, and a resume can only show judgment through outcomes. Say what you chose to build, how you knew it was the right thing and what it did for users and the business.

Opens in the builder with this text in place, ready for you to replace with your own.

What this example does well

  • Results are in business terms (conversion, revenue, tickets) and each names the decision behind it.
  • The bullet about stopping a feature shows judgment, which is rare on resumes and memorable.
  • Team shape is stated, so the reader knows how much she was responsible for.

How do you write a summary for a product manager resume?

Two to four lines at the top that say what you do, for how long, and what you are best at. Here is one for each stage of a career.

  • Entry level

Associate product manager with two years as a business analyst on a product team. Wrote requirements for a mobile feature used by 50,000 customers, ran user interviews and analyzed results in SQL. Ready to own a product area.

  • Experienced

Product manager with five years of experience in SaaS. Leads discovery, sets priorities with engineering and design, and measures results. Shipped features that raised activation and cut churn.

  • Senior

Director of product with twelve years of experience. Leads five product managers across a platform with $80 million in annual revenue, sets the yearly strategy with the executive team and has taken two products from idea to market leadership in their niche.

What are good bullet points for a product manager resume?

Each starts with a verb and says what was done. Change the details and numbers to your own; a number you cannot explain in an interview is worse than none.

  1. Owned the roadmap for a product area with 12,000 active customers.

  2. Interviewed 30 customers and turned the findings into a redesign that raised activation by 9 points.

  3. Launched a new pricing tier that increased average revenue per account by 14%.

  4. Wrote clear specs and worked daily with a team of seven engineers and a designer.

  5. Defined success metrics before each launch and reported on them afterwards.

  6. Ran A/B tests on onboarding and kept only the changes that improved retention.

  7. Cut a feature from the roadmap after research showed weak demand.

  8. Reduced churn from 3.1% to 2.4% a month by fixing the three top reasons customers gave for leaving.

  9. Presented quarterly plans to executives and aligned sales, support and marketing before launches.

  10. Used SQL and product analytics to answer my own questions without waiting for an analyst.

Which skills should a product manager put on a resume?

Pick the ones the job posting asks for and that you can back up with an example from your work.

Hard skills

  • Product discovery and user research
  • Roadmapping and prioritization
  • Writing requirements and specs
  • Experimentation and A/B testing
  • Product analytics (Amplitude, Mixpanel)
  • SQL
  • Pricing and packaging
  • Agile delivery
  • Go-to-market planning

Soft skills

  • Judgment
  • Influence without authority
  • Clear writing
  • Listening to customers
  • Saying no

Licenses and certifications

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)
  • Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO)

Which keywords belong on a product manager resume?

The words recruiters and applicant tracking systems search for.

  • conversion
  • customers
  • roadmap
  • discovery
  • A/B tests
  • revenue
  • launched
  • engineering teams
  • interviewing

Use the ones that are true for you, written the way the posting writes them, and put each where it shows something you did. A list of keywords with nothing behind it helps nobody. To keep them readable by software, choose an ATS-friendly template, and read how applicant tracking systems read a resume.

How do you write product manager bullet points?

Follow a simple shape: what you decided, what you learned that led to it, and the result. "Rebuilt setup around the first payroll run after interviewing 40 owners; conversion rose from 21% to 29%" covers all three.

Avoid bullets that only describe process, such as running stand-ups or grooming a backlog. Every product manager does those, and they say nothing about whether you chose well.

How do you take credit fairly for a team's result?

Say what your part was. Verbs like decided, prioritized, discovered, defined and launched are honest for a product manager. Built and designed usually belong to someone else.

Naming the team you worked with makes the claim more believable, and interviewers tend to like candidates who share credit.

What do technology employers look for in a resume?

  • Tie each tool to something you did with it. A skills list of twenty languages says little; a bullet that names the service you built in one of them says a lot.
  • Say what changed because of your work: a faster page, fewer incidents, a report that people now use every week.
  • Match the words in the job posting. If it says Kubernetes, write Kubernetes and not only "container orchestration", because screening software and tired recruiters both search for the exact word.

Questions about a product manager resume

Do product managers need a technical background?

Not always. If you have one, mention it briefly. If you do not, show that engineers trusted you: clear specs, steady delivery, decisions made with data.

Should I list the frameworks I use?

Sparingly. Employers care more about outcomes than about whether you use a particular prioritization method.

How do I move into product from another role?

Rewrite your current experience around product-like work: customer problems you identified, requirements you wrote, launches you coordinated and their results.

How long should a product manager resume be?

One page for most; two at director level.

Make this product manager resume yours.

Start from the example, swap in your own jobs and numbers, and switch to any template without retyping a word.
