When a classic template is the right call

Traditional employers

Law firms, banks, schools, public bodies and established companies read classic layouts every day; nothing about the design gets in the way.

Senior roles

A restrained page suits a long, substantial career. Quill and Foolscap are made for it.

Applying abroad

Passport follows the European CV, with a square photo and personal details, for countries where employers expect them.

Questions

What is the difference between classic and simple templates?

Classic designs keep traditional touches such as serif type, centered names and small capitals. Simple designs strip the page back further, with plain type and little or no decoration.

Are classic templates ATS-friendly?

Almost all of them are rated ATS-friendly, and each template shows its rating. Their single column and standard headings are what tracking systems read best.

Serif or sans-serif type for a resume?

Both are fine at the right size. Serif type feels traditional and prints well; sans-serif feels modern and reads well on screen. Pick the one that suits your field and keep it throughout.
