Student Resume Example

Also called University Student, Undergraduate, Part-Time Student.

Employers reading a student resume know you have little work history. They look for signs of how you will work: responsibility in a part-time job, results in a club or project, and courses that connect to the role.

Opens in the builder with this text in place, ready for you to replace with your own.

What this example does well

  • Education comes first with the expected graduation date, the first thing an employer checks for a student.
  • The part-time job shows responsibility growing over time, not only duties.
  • A club role and a class project provide the numbers that the work history cannot yet.

What are good bullet points for a student resume?

Each starts with a verb and says what was done. Change the details and numbers to your own; a number you cannot explain in an interview is worse than none.

  1. Worked 15 hours a week during the semester while keeping a 3.5 GPA.

  2. Managed a $8,000 club budget as treasurer and reported spending monthly.

  3. Led a team of four on a class project and presented the results to a panel of local business owners.

  4. Trained new student workers on procedures and customer service.

  5. Tutored classmates in statistics through the campus learning center.

  6. Organized a fundraising event that raised $3,500 for a local charity.

  7. Built a spreadsheet model for a class case study on pricing.

  8. Wrote articles for the student newspaper on campus events.

  9. Helped run orientation for 300 new students as a peer mentor.

  10. Balanced a part-time job, a full course load and a sports team.

Which skills should a college student put on a resume?

Pick the ones the job posting asks for and that you can back up with an example from your work.

Hard skills

  • Software for your field (Excel, Python, Adobe, lab equipment)
  • Research and writing
  • Data analysis basics
  • Presentation tools
  • Social media
  • Languages
  • Cash handling and customer service

Soft skills

  • Reliability
  • Time management
  • Willingness to learn
  • Teamwork
  • Communication

Licenses and certifications

  • CPR and First Aid
  • Online courses related to the job

Which keywords belong on a student resume?

The words recruiters and applicant tracking systems search for.

  • GPA
  • Dean's List
  • courses
  • customers
  • budget
  • Excel
  • treasurer
  • trained
  • project

Use the ones that are true for you, written the way the posting writes them, and put each where it shows something you did. A list of keywords with nothing behind it helps nobody. To keep them readable by software, choose an ATS-friendly template, and read how applicant tracking systems read a resume.

What goes on a student resume?

Education first, with your degree, expected graduation date and GPA if it is 3.0 or higher. Then work, projects, clubs and volunteering, each described with what you did and one result.

Relevant courses help when you have little experience. List three or four that connect to the job, not your whole transcript.

How do you make part-time jobs count?

Show responsibility and growth. Being trusted to close, training new staff or handling cash all tell an employer you are dependable.

Say how many hours you worked alongside your studies. Balancing both is a real achievement and employers notice.

What matters on a first resume?

  • Put education first and add what makes it concrete: relevant courses, a project, a grade you are proud of.
  • Unpaid experience counts. Volunteering, clubs, sport, caring for family and school projects all show how you work.
  • One page is right. Leave out a filler objective and use the space for things you actually did.
