What are good bullet points for a high school student resume?

Each starts with a verb and says what was done. Change the details and numbers to your own; a number you cannot explain in an interview is worse than none.

  2. Volunteered 90 hours at the public library helping with children's programs.

Which skills should a high school student put on a resume?

Pick the ones the job posting asks for and that you can back up with an example from your work.

Hard skills

  • Customer service
  • Cash handling
  • Childcare
  • Computer basics (Word, Google Docs, email)
  • Languages
  • Food handling, if trained

Soft skills

  • Reliability
  • Friendliness
  • Willingness to learn
  • Teamwork
  • Punctuality

Licenses and certifications

  • CPR and First Aid
  • Babysitting and child care course
  • Food handler card

Which keywords belong on a high school student resume?

The words recruiters and applicant tracking systems search for.

  • GPA
  • Honor Roll
  • attendance
  • children
  • volunteer
  • families
  • weekends
  • part-time

Use the ones that are true for you, written the way the posting writes them, and put each where it shows something you did. A list of keywords with nothing behind it helps nobody. To keep them readable by software, choose an ATS-friendly template, and read how applicant tracking systems read a resume.

How do you write a resume in high school?

Start with your school, expected graduation year and GPA if it is good. Then add any work, including informal jobs like babysitting or mowing lawns, and your activities and volunteering.

Keep it to one page and describe each thing with what you did and how often. Managers hiring for a first job want to know you will show up and try hard.

What if you have never had a job?

School, sports, clubs, volunteering and helping family all count. Describe your responsibilities in each, such as leading practices or handling money for a fundraiser.

Add your availability, because it often decides who gets hired for part-time work.

What matters on a first resume?

  • Put education first and add what makes it concrete: relevant courses, a project, a grade you are proud of.
  • Unpaid experience counts. Volunteering, clubs, sport, caring for family and school projects all show how you work.
  • One page is right. Leave out a filler objective and use the space for things you actually did.
