What are good bullet points for a pharmacy technician resume?

Each starts with a verb and says what was done. Change the details and numbers to your own; a number you cannot explain in an interview is worse than none.

  1. Entered and filled about 230 prescriptions a shift, with fewer than one correction per thousand at the pharmacist's final check.

  2. Resolved rejected claims by contacting insurers and prescribers, clearing most within ten minutes.

  3. Prepared sterile IV admixtures in a cleanroom under USP 797, passing every media-fill test.

  4. Compounded creams, suspensions and capsules following USP 795 procedures.

  5. Counted controlled substances with the pharmacist each week and documented every count.

  6. Ordered and rotated stock, cutting expired inventory write-offs by a quarter.

  7. Restocked automated dispensing cabinets and investigated discrepancies the same day.

  8. Answered patient questions about pick-up, refills and coverage and passed clinical questions to the pharmacist.

  9. Processed vaccine paperwork and prepared doses for pharmacists during flu season.

  10. Trained five new technicians on the pharmacy system and workflow.

Which skills should a pharmacy technician put on a resume?

Pick the ones the job posting asks for and that you can back up with an example from your work.

  • Prescription data entry and filling
  • Sterile compounding (USP 797)
  • Non-sterile compounding (USP 795)

  • Controlled-substance record keeping
  • Automated dispensing cabinets
  • Pharmacy math
  • Medication history collection

Soft skills

  • Accuracy
  • Focus during busy periods
  • Customer service
  • Integrity
  • Clear communication with pharmacists

  • ExCPT certification (NHA)

  • Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT)

Which keywords belong on a pharmacy technician resume?

The words recruiters and applicant tracking systems search for.

  • prescriptions
  • sterile
  • USP 797
  • insurance
  • controlled-substance
  • inventory
  • dispensing cabinets
  • PTCB
  • compounding

Use the ones that are true for you, written the way the posting writes them, and put each where it shows something you did. A list of keywords with nothing behind it helps nobody. To keep them readable by software, choose an ATS-friendly template, and read how applicant tracking systems read a resume.

How do you show accuracy on a pharmacy technician resume?

Give it as a number next to your volume. Most pharmacies track how often the pharmacist has to correct a fill, and "250 prescriptions a shift with fewer than one correction per thousand" says both fast and careful in one line.

If you do not know your rate, use evidence you do have: counts that balanced, audits passed, competency checks, or being chosen to train others.

Is a retail pharmacy resume different from a hospital one?

The emphasis is. Retail managers look for prescription volume, insurance problem-solving and customer service. Hospital managers look for sterile compounding, dispensing cabinets, medication histories and working to unit schedules.

If you are moving from one to the other, put the skills that carry over first: accuracy, controlled-substance handling, inventory and any compounding you have done.

What do healthcare employers look for in a resume?

  • Put your license or registration where it cannot be missed: next to your name or at the top of a certifications section, with the state or country that issued it.
  • Name the setting and its size. A 28-bed surgical unit, a four-dentist practice and a home-care round of nine clients tell a recruiter far more than the job title does.
  • Show safety and accuracy with numbers you can stand behind: patients per shift, audit results, falls, waiting times. Leave out anything that could identify a patient.

Questions about a pharmacy technician resume

Do I need to be certified to write a pharmacy technician resume?

Rules differ by state. Some require national certification, some only registration with the board of pharmacy. List what you hold, and if you are working toward certification, give the exam date.

Should I list the pharmacy software I know?

Yes, by name. Systems differ between chains and hospitals, and a manager who sees their own system on your resume knows you will be productive sooner.

What if my only experience is as a pharmacy cashier?

Use it. You already know the counter, privacy rules and how pick-up works. Add your technician training and any tasks you helped with, and say you are registered as a technician in training if your state has that status.

How long should a pharmacy technician resume be?

One page is enough for almost everyone in this role.
