What makes a good summary
The same rules hold whatever your job.
- Start with your job title, so the reader knows at once what you do.
- Name two or three strengths the job posting asks for, in its words.
- Add one result with a number: how many, how much or how fast.
- Keep it to two to four sentences. Leave out "I" and phrases like "hard-working".
Twenty more examples, from first jobs to senior roles, are in our guide to writing a resume summary.
Questions
Does this generator use AI?
No. It puts your own words into sentence patterns that recruiters read easily, so nothing in the result is made up. For many jobs it also shows the summaries from our resume example for that job.
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no limit. What you type stays in your browser.
How long should a resume summary be?
Two to four sentences, roughly 40 to 80 words. It should fit in a few lines at the top of the page.
Should I write a summary or an objective?
A summary, for most people. It says what you offer; you can add what you want next in its last sentence, which this generator does if you fill in that field.
